Hollis Wong-Wear is an award-winning multi-disciplinary artist and creative strategist whose practice is rooted in music, poetry and film. Raised in the Bay Area, and now based between Los Angeles and Seattle, her work thrives in the intersections of creative expression, community building and change making. Across mediums, the core intention of her work is to nurture and activate a deeper sense of self, connection and purpose.
As a singer and songwriter, Hollis has released two solo albums, half-life and Subliminal; the latter was featured on Spotify's Fresh Finds, Apple Music's New in Alternative, and named a Bandcamp New and Notable release. Hollis was Grammy nominated for her collaborations with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on The Heist, and released four albums independently as the lead singer of the Seattle electronic R&B trio The Flavr Blue.
Hollis is the founder and Principal of hww.work, a creative production company dialing up creativity for social change specializing in film, video, photography and content creative. Built from her experience producing indie music videos, Hollis has dedicated her love of independent filmmaking to collaborating with impactful leaders and organizations to shape their stories and amplify their work. Hollis directed Jamila Woods’ music video for “Still,” and has directed and executive produced work for ACLU of Washington, ArtsFund and the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. In addition to her work in music and film, Hollis writes regularly on Substack, and is a frequent host and facilitator on-screen and on podcasts, as well as in-person at events, conferences, universities and organizations. Particularly passionate about the intersection of creativity, technology and financial self-determination, she is a Google NextGen Policy Leader and also served as an Interledger Foundation Ambassador, where she continues to co-host the Future|Money Podcast. She co-hosts the pop culture program Obsessed! on Uproxx, and has hosted events for Warner Music, KEXP, WrapWomen, the Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute, and Planned Parenthood.
Hollis graduated with her BA in History with minors in Philosophy and Global African Studies from Seattle University, where she was named Outstanding Recent Alumna in 2016. She is an alumna of the Hedgebrook Residency and a Humanity in Action Senior Fellow.
